How many units of Botox do I need?

Botox: our medical team has your answers!

MOVEMENT OR NO MOVEMENT?

The number of neuromodulator units (Botox®, Xeomin® or Dysport®) used will not be the same for everyone. Neuromodulator units will be personalized for each individual based on your anatomy, gender, treatment area and facial muscle strength, among others. The number of units injected will influence its effect on the muscle. Our experts will help you achieve the result you want, whatever your preference.

Your guide to Botox®

The most common treatment areas are the forehead, crow’s feet and frown area. However, neuromodulators (Botox®, Xeomin® or Dysport®) can be injected into various locations to naturally enhance your facial features.

According to general guidelines, the following units are generally given, but may vary depending on the needs of each patient:

  1. Forehead: 10 to 25 units
  2. Glabella (frown lines): 12 to 25 units
  3. Brow lift: 10 units
  4. Crow’s feet: 10 to 20 units per side
  5. Nose (Bunny nose): 4 to 8 units
  6. Smile beautification (Gummy smile): 2 to 6 units
  7. Upper lip: 4 to 8 units
  8. Chin (orange peel): 8 to 10 units
  9. Marrionnettes wrinkles: 6 to 10 units
  10. Masseters (for teeth grinding or facial slimming): 21 to 30 units per side
  11. Neck wrinkles (cervical bands): 3 to 8 units per bandelettes

Everyone has different needs

The number of units you receive will be based on your individual needs. Some patients may need more than the general guidelines to treat severe lines and wrinkles.

Men tend to have stronger facial muscles. This means it will take more product to relax those muscles. For example, men tend to need more units for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

One thing is certain, no two patients are alike and the units needed will be based on individual needs.

Sometimes less is enough!

Our medical team will work with you to customize a plan that will help you work up to an optimal amount of neuromodulators (Botox®, Xeomin® or Dysport®). It’s always best to start low and work your way up. Especially if it’s your first time getting an injection. When you return for your two-week follow-up appointment, more may be added if necessary.

Botox will take effect within two weeks, so this is the best time to review the results obtained. It’s easy to add more units, but you can’t remove them once they’ve been donated. Results can last up to three to four months.
